Player Accounts vs Player Characters

CyberScribe separates the person from their character:

  • A Player Account is a login for the real person — they use this to view summaries.
  • A Player Character is the fictional character in your campaign — it's linked to the player's account.

A player can have multiple characters across different campaigns, and a person can have multiple characters in the same campaign (though running two characters at once is unusual).

Creating a Player Account

  1. On your Dashboard, click "New Player Account".
  2. Enter a Username and Password — the player will use these to log in.
  3. Optionally enter a Discord Name to group characters by player on your dashboard.
  4. Click "Create Player Account".
  5. Share the username and password with your player.

Assigning a Character to a Campaign

  1. On your Dashboard, go to the Campaign you want to add a character to.
  2. Click "Add Player".
  3. Select the player account from the dropdown.
  4. Enter the Character Name.
  5. Click "Add Player Character".

Active vs Inactive Characters

When a player leaves a campaign or starts a new character, you can toggle their character Inactive instead of deleting them. Inactive characters still appear in your records but are marked as inactive and won't be pre-assigned to new sessions.

To toggle: find the character on their campaign page and click the Toggle Active button.

What Players See

When a player logs in, they see:

  • A dashboard listing their campaigns and characters.
  • A list of sessions for each campaign (only sessions that include their character).
  • The Session Summary for each session (GM Hooks are private and not visible to players).

Managing Session Players

Each session can have a different set of player characters. When you create a new session, all active characters in the campaign are automatically added. You can adjust this on the session's "Edit Player Characters" page — useful when a player couldn't make it to a particular session.

Deleting a Player Character

To remove a character, open its settings page (find the character on the campaign page and click "Character Settings") and click "Delete Player Character". This deletes the character entirely — it cannot be undone. If the player may return, use Toggle Active to make the character inactive instead.

Deleting a character does not delete the player's account. Player accounts (and everything linked to them) are managed by an Admin.
