Overview

CyberScribe can post your generated content to Discord channels using webhooks. A webhook is a Discord-specific URL that lets an app send messages into a channel without a bot account.

There are two webhooks, each pointing at a different channel depending on who should see the content:

  • Campaign-level webhook — for Session Summaries. Post these to a public channel so your players can see them.
  • GM-settings webhook — for Plot Hooks. Post these to a hidden/private channel only you can see.

Creating a Discord Webhook

  1. In Discord, open the server settings of the server you want to post to.
  2. Go to Integrations → Webhooks and click "New Webhook".
  3. Give it a name (e.g. "CyberScribe Summaries"), choose the channel it should post to, then click "Copy Webhook URL".
  4. Paste that URL into the matching webhook field in CyberScribe (see below).

For plot hooks, create a second webhook pointed at a private channel (a channel only you can access) and paste it into your GM settings.

Where to Set the Webhooks

Campaign-level — for Summaries

Go to a Campaign → "Campaign Settings". The field "Discord Webhook URL (Public Channel for Summaries)" holds the webhook that sends session summaries. This is the webhook used by the "Send to Discord" button on the Session Summary card, and by the "Post Summary in Discord Channel" toggle.

GM settings — for Plot Hooks

Go to your GM Settings (Dashboard → Settings). The field "Discord Webhook URL (Hidden Channel for Plot Hooks)" holds the webhook that sends plot hooks. This is the webhook used by the "Send to Discord" button on the Game Master Hooks card, and by the "Send Plot Hooks ... via Discord DM" toggle.

Webhook URLs are stored encrypted and are never shown in full again after you save them. Leave the field blank to keep the current value when editing settings.

Sending Content Manually

On the Session page, each generated piece of content has a "Send to Discord" button:

  • Session Summary → posts to the campaign-level (public) webhook.
  • Game Master Hooks → posts to the GM-settings (hidden) webhook.

If a webhook isn't configured (or the content is empty), the button is greyed out. Messages longer than 2000 characters are automatically split into multiple Discord messages.

Auto-Generating and Auto-Posting

Each session has toggles in Session Settings that control what happens automatically once transcription completes:

  • "Auto-Generate Summary on Transcription Completion" — automatically generate the session summary when the audio finishes transcribing.
  • "Post Summary in Discord Channel" — after a summary is generated, automatically post it to the campaign-level webhook.
  • "Auto-Generate Plot Hooks on Transcription Completion" — automatically generate plot hooks when transcription finishes.
  • "Send Plot Hooks ... via Discord DM" — after plot hooks are generated, automatically post them to the GM-settings webhook.

Campaigns and GM accounts can set defaults for these toggles (in Campaign Settings and GM Settings) that new sessions inherit — so you can set your preferences once and every session picks them up automatically.
